INSIDERS MESSAGE
ROUGH LUMBER PRICES:
A highly volatile topic at various times throughout all of
our careers. Why bring this to your attention at this time? “To
help protect you and us”. Lumber prices had fallen to
25-year historic lows throughout this downturn but have increased
considerably in recent weeks. Even though construction
activity still remains significantly weak (going on 3+ years) there are
signs of increased activity, which along with mill shutdowns and low
inventories can affect this market. Still without a “crystal ball” these
indicators tell us that there is only one direction the market is
most likely headed… and that’s up. We have reason to believe
there’s continued escalation ahead and are taking this opportunity to
suggest you communicate this information to your customers and stay in
close correspondence with your lumber representative. We plan to stay on
top of this and keep you informed as best we can.
