New Residential Building Code in 2013 Ohio has recently adopted a statewide building code covering ALL of the state. Even if a county or other jurisdiction does not have a building department of inspectors, you STILL must comply! The new code is based on IRC 2009. See more below.
Info on The New Code. The changes in the new code are wide and varied. The code can be downloaded below. It is over 1000 pages long, but can be searched in your PDF viewer. Some changes include carbon monoxide detectors outside bedrooms, requirements for permanent high efficiency lighting, grounding of flexible gas lines, and fire resistance rating of floors. One large change is in energy efficiency. There will be a choice of three methods for compliance. Some include blower door test as mandatory, however, the method must be chosen at the design stage, not during construction. Here are the three energy options and a link to building code.

2. Sections 1101 through 1104 of this chapter; or
3. Section 1105 – “The Ohio Home Builder’s Association (OHBA) Alternative
Energy Code Option”. (download)
